The Minister of Higher Education and Training has established a new institution, i.e., the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SEFAKO) whose main purpose is teaching, research and service community engagement . This was published in the South African Government Gazette no: 37658 of the 16 May 2014. The seat of the University is located at Ga-Rankuwa at the MEDUNSA campus of the University of Limpopo, previously known as the Medical University of South Africa campus and will be expanding in the near future. The University will open its doors in January 2015. The Sefako Makgatho Health Science University will continue to offer the academic programmes on offer at the Medunsa campus.
