PRESS RELEASE: SAPTU satisfied with NHLS preparations amidst COVID-19 spike

SAPTU is satisfied that its members at the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) will be protected if the second wave of COVID-19 should hit the country.

This comes amidst statistics showing a slight spike in infections and some health workers protesting over the issue.

“Our members confirmed that there are strict protocols in place in terms of protective wear, as well as for the management of infected employees at the NHLS laboratories,” says Adv Ben van der Walt, the general secretary of SAPTU. “Even though there were some infections under NHLS-staff previously, we are confident that our members on the front lines will be protected.”

“Our members report that the NHLS adhered to all requests for enough protective wear and issues around social distancing like more partitioning in work and eating areas. The proper protocols for contact tracing after infections are in place and will be followed.”

SAPTU thanks its members for their outstanding work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
