SAPTU supports awareness campaign about crime against agricultural community

South African farmers and their workers continue to be the target of criminals who commit brutal attacks and murders on the farming community.

SAPTU (South African Parastatal and Tertiary Institutions Union) has many members in the agricultural industry and therefore realise the impact of these attacks on food production in the country. In support of our colleagues in agriculture, we want to encourage SAPTU members and the public to participate in TLU SA’s Virtual Walk against Farm murders.

“We realise that a protest walk will not prevent any attacks or murders,” says Adv Ben van der Walt, the general secretary of SAPTU. “But, with our support of the campaign, we hope to create awareness about the situation. Crime in South Africa is completely out of control. We call on the government to do more to prevent criminal activities than simply announcing the continually rising crime statistics year on year.”

Participants can join the Virtual Walk Against Farm murders between 16 and 17 June (from 7:00 to 7:00). Register at this link: https://stapsaam.co.za/en/ to show your support.
